Title: Be Cleansed
Author: Pastor Wallace Ong

Matthew 8:2–3: 2 And a man with leprosy came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Jesus reached out with His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

And a man with leprosy came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” What a beautiful scene to see someone who recognizes Jesus as a savior who has power and authority to save, to heal, and to make him whole. This man did not doubt whether Jesus has the power and authority to perform such a miracle, provided He is ‘WILLING’ to grant this mercy to make him clean. He came before Jesus to plea for His mercy. He had not doubt that Jesus can fulfill his request – “LORD, If YOU ARE WILLING, YOU CAN MAKE ME CLEAN”

Another beautiful picture surfaced when Jesus responded with a gentle touch on that leper, “I am WILLING; BE CLEANSED.” It is unimaginable that one would touch a leper – a diseased and unclean man. This is one of the most beautiful pictures of the compassionate touch of the Savior and Lord God – Jesus Christ. Not only Jesus was willing to heal the man, He also showed His compassion with a touch to make him regain his self-worth – feel like a person who is being loved and cared for. It must have been a long time since he was touched by another person. After all, no one would want to touch him since he was first found to have the disease. People would run away from him, and perhaps even throw stones at him to keep him away. But for Jesus, He stretched out His hand to touch the scaly, inflamed, and discolored skin of the diseased man.

Today, Jesus is still with a compassionate heart touching sinful men like us. At His touch, we are healed and made whole again. What the ultimate, healing Jesus most desires to bring us is a complete healing from the DISEASE of SIN – that would lead our body and soul to eternal death. He wants us to be with Him for eternity. If we confess our sins and ask for Jesus to reach out, cleanse us, and give us new hearts, He will gladly do so, and the healing will last for eternity. Would we plea to Jesus today? Ask Him, “Dear Lord Jesus, please forgive my SIN. Heal me from my SIN. Make me whole again.”

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, We are thankful for Your love to us. You come to us in human flesh to show Your humility and compassion to us. Thank You for redeeming us from SIN which leads to eternal death – making us whole again to live an abundant life with You in eternity. Thank You for Your healing touch on my life. I pray that I may be used by You in reaching out to the lost, for Your name’s sake. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
